San Pedro shocker: Buscaino leading in CD 15

News Analysis: A poll leaked to street-hassle indicates that police officer Joe Buscaino's strong run has especially put Firefighter's Union candidate Pat McOsker is in deep trouble in the CD 15 race, as McOsker has to worry about both the candidates in front of him and within margin of error behind him, and Warren Furutani's team of strong closers will now start to rev up direct mail. Meanwhile, the IBEW, McOsker's most critical backer, is asking questions about McOsker's "polling, research, and consulting" expenditures given dismal results to-date, and debating whether to double-down or cut losses.

Some shocking poll results from last week indicate that candidate Joe Buscaino is leading better-known candidates in the race to fill Councilmember Hahn's seat in San Pedro, Wilmington and Harbor Gateway.

Poll results:

Buscaino 23
Furutani 17
McOsker 13
Svorinich 9
Wilson 8
Chambliss 8

As the contest enters its final three weeks, the poll results indicate that the real race is for second place, as there is no chance for any candidate to get to 50%. Buscaino always figured to do well in San Pedro, where he has even taken on the notion in the past of becoming its "honorary mayor"--a title of his own devising [UPDATE: no, it's not of his own devising--the title has been around for a long time]. And he always also figured to have the most votes locked in early. The machines behind Furutani and McOsker are the ones that are most inspired to scramble at this point--neither candidate has enough votes locked in to feel very good about the election, which is, at this point, a real race between each of the top six candidates.
