Councilmember Jan Perry, whose campaign for mayor is generally thought to be significantly behind other campaigns in public sentiment, has established a presence in the Valley, where she does not figure to attract many voters. This morning, former Councilmember Grieg Smith, Republican from Porter Ranch, endorsed Perry for Mayor.
"I am endorsing Jan for Mayor because she is tough enough to make Los Angeles work again. Her vision has revitalized the city core, creating tens of thousands of jobs, resulting in millions of dollars of new revenue," Smith said in a statement released to media.
Smith also touted Perry's typically antagonistic attitude to the DWP as a reason for supporting her.
There was chatter among LA's political desperadoes late last month suggesting that Perry might abandon her mayoral campaign and enter the Controller's race. The Smith endorsement dispels this rumor.
