In a moderate but incomplete upset last night over endorsements in the Council District 15 race, rank and file at SEIU 721 urged their executive committee to endorse State Assemblyman Warren Furutani for City Council above UFLAC President Pat McOsker. The executive committee, which is unlikely to heed its own rank and file vote, but also may choose not to endorse at all, will meet to decide the matter within a week.
Yesterday, renegade rank and file at UFLAC sent letters to SEIU rank and file urging them not to endorse McOsker. That effort appears to have been temporarily successful. McOsker's own union has to-date made no endorsement in the race, reserving the right to revisit the matter in September.
