Latino-dominated State Redistricting Commission shafts blacks again, caucus says

The California Friends of the African American Caucus has released the following statement on State commission redistricting:

The closer the California Citizens Redistricting Commission gets to the July 28th unveiling of its final district maps, the more this supposedly people's commission reveals its insidious intent on stripping the African American electorate of its collective voice and political power in California.

The Commission's latest shenanigans occurred this past weekend, when it announced at its July 8th meeting that it will amend its schedule and not release a second round of draft maps to the public prior to and during the meetings.

While the stated rationale for doing this was "to produce the best district maps possible," it is blatantly clear that the commission has decided (or has been persuaded) that the "best maps possible" gut Black political power in California by eliminating a historically Black Congressional district in Los Angeles and weakening Black political power in the state Senate....

&c. I brought up some similar concerns a month ago.
