Fun A&E this weekend
Yes. A couple of amazing sights in LA this weekend.
If you haven't seen Il Turco in Italia, this is one of the best that LA Opera's ever staged. Tickets for Sunday are very tight. Tickets tonight are a maybe. But there's never been better buffa, and the soprano fills the appreciative house, and the art direction is witty enough to sustain life in any cultural desert. I've seen it twice, once at the premiere and once last night, and it only went from insanely great to best ever. This hilarious Rossini work is rarely produced in the US; a few of us saw it last when NYCO and Bubbles brought it here in...not kidding...1978.
Pop fare: Jail Weddings, featuring Gabe from TJ's on Hyperion, a huge band somewhere around but not between Sparks and Meat Loaf, fronts the edgily popular and straight-outta-London Jim Jones Review tomorrow night at the El Rey on Wilshire. $17 you won't regret spending I guarantee.
