Analysis: Rudy awful in public, Jose awful in private
The poor folks of CD 14 have to choose between a guy who keeps rigorous score of markers in and markers out and a guy who says Home Depot has paint and Lowe's has paint and there's your graffiti abatement program.
Both make enormous soundbite gaffes early on: Rudy says "a councilmember, a councilman, a councilmember needs to have many qualities, and has many responsibilities, but the first is to listen, to listen to its constituents." Jose says "So, if you are to ask me who I am, without responding to that, I think I'm a father, and I'm a public servant."
Meanwhile, Jose at one point ranked Ruby DeVera, the woman who once ran against him for the CD 14 slot, a "-1" as a community supporter. In the candidate forum, he says that the job of a Councilmember is to "represent the people who elected you."
Before this race begins, it threatens to end; at this point in the campaign, nobody outside of this district can possibly be hopeful about either of these choices.
And both sides insist there's more coming! Run away.
