Danette Meyers Gunning for Cooley's Job
Well, this is a welcome surprise that affords some new twists to a coming interesting race. Danette Meyers has announced her candidacy for LA County District Attorney in 2012. Meyers is tough, aggressive, practical, and immanently qualified. For years, she has been part of the elite special prosecution team that tries defendants charged with crimes against police and peace officers. She is also a former veep and president of the LA County Bar Association.
But she is better known recently in tinseltown as the prosecutor who sent Lindsey Lohan to the concrete chateau.
The candidacy offers an ironic twist to Cooley, who, had he won election over black female Kamala Harris, favored another black female, not Meyers, as his LA County successor. It is not known who is backing Meyers, but in her work as diversity advocate in various lawyer organizations, not to mention her County Bar board service, she has connections throughout LA County's legal community.
