Of course there's no tent at all. The Ojai Festival commences Thursday and runs through Sunday. But what's been described as more "big tent and user-friendly" programming than that in recent years runs through the weekend. There's a rundown at LA Opus. Bach and Ives make it into the mix on Saturday, as well as Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire for the hardliners. The Sunday finale also offers a chance to see a Cage piece outside of the hallowed cage of Disney Hall.
If you'd rather stay in town Thursday, Mountain Bar has a forward-looking lineup of writers and poetry, including Ariana Reines from Berkeley, who will be honored by semiotext(e), the local band of French theorists, essentialist lesbians, Deleuzean nomads, post-situationists, people named Lotringer, and others whose ropes are dragging down the drab public square statuary of mainstream media and publishing. 473 Gin Ling Way at 8:30 p.m., but I probably don't need to tell you that.
