The more tangled the LAUSD budget fiasco becomes, the less leadership is shown by their nefarious Board. Board members sat around today listening to various impassioned speeches that are about as relevant to what they'll ultimately do as Zuma Dogg's public comment is to the way Garcetti votes. In the end, they voted to rescind some utterly rescindable layoff pink-slips to elementary teachers---which is a little like placing a stop order and later cancelling it when it actually comes close to your price.
I read in the Mayor's State of the City Speech that Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said that "With Ray Cortines at the helm, the LAUSD now has a leader with the vision, commitment and nerve to step up to the chalkboard and answer the toughest questions." Soon it will even be obvious to fishwraps that the Mayor is pointedly lying about this: hardly displaying courage, Cortines has now issued and rescinded layoff notices twice, which neither answers tough questions nor demonstrates nerve. And these layoff notices don't even really count as layoff notices, only as prospective layoff notices!
All bargaining units except the teachers are getting greased in the Cortines budget. This has been a far from a courageous display thus far.
