Yours truly has a piece on Cortines's first hundred days as LAUSD superintendent in the LA Weekly this week. I hope you'll find the piece as intriguing as the District itself has been since letting Brewer go.
If you know a teacher, parent, or administrator in the District---and who doesn't?---please consider sharing it with them and even soliciting their opinion. And don't be afraid to invite them to comment over there at the Weekly's site either. Whether they like the piece or don't, I'm sure they'd love to hear from them, and from you too.
And don't be afraid to tell me what you think either. That's what all the contact info in the sidebar here is for. LAUSD is in immense need of far greater scrutiny and political dialog---I think on that point all would agree.
With the amount we invest in it, psychically as well as financially, it's not sufficient to dismiss the District as a hopeless basket case; to do so is just as hopeless a stance.
